De Voorst house in Eefde was built by a protege of king-statholder William III. It shows a clear resemblance to Het Loo palace.

Het Loo palace was built as a hunting lodge for king-statholder William III and his wife, Mary Stuart. The palace shows the typical structure of dutch stately homes. Specially the restored 17th century gardens are worth seeing!

Middachten castle in De Steeg is one of the finest 17th centruy castles in the Netherlands. It is the "younger sister" of Amerongen castle in Utrecht.

Oldenaller house is said to have been designed by Jacob van Campen, who also lived here at the end of his life.

Slangenburg castle in Doetinchem has all the features of a 17th century feudal castle: towers and a moat.

Keppel castle was built in a late renaissance style at the beginning of the 17th century. It does not look like the castles that were built later in the same century in the county of Gelria. It is a charming building, however.

Opheusden castle is a typical 17th century simple nobelman's seat.
